2nd ANNUAL JOHN R. MURREN SYMPOSIUM:
"ADVANCES IN THORACIC ONCOLOGY"

RED ROCK CONFERENCE CENTER
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA
Friday-Saturday, March 7-8, 2008

Yale CME and the Nevada Cancer Institute are pleased to announce this symposium to be held at the Red Rock Conference Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Yale School of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 8.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

Dr. John Murren was among the founders of both The Yale Cancer Center Thoracic Oncology Program and the Nevada Cancer Institute. In furtherance of his efforts, the Course Directors, Drs. Lynn Tanoue, Nicholas Vogelzang, Giuseppe Pizzorno, and Daniel M. Goodenberger gathered 10 renowned national and international faculty who will provide evidence-based education to multidisciplinary clinicians involved in the screening, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with lung cancer and abnormal scans of the chest.

Participants who attend will be able to:

  • predict responses to chemotherapy for advanced stage NSCLC
  • understand and apply translational breakthroughs to the care of patients with lung cancer
  • analyze novel approaches and therapies in the treatment of lung cancer
  • apply new innovations in radiation therapy
  • review modern approaches to mediastinal tumors
  • assess updates in approaches to thymoma
  • apply multidisciplinary approaches to esophageal cancer, and
  • evaluate healthcare economics in oncology care.

Announcement Concerning Residents and Fellows

AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(TM) may be awarded to any M.D. or D.O., and this now includes Residents and Fellows. Additionally, Residents and Fellows may now apply directly to the AMA to be awarded 20 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits per year of residency or fellowship.

New Connecticut Relicensure Requirements

The Connecticut State Legislature has passed Public Act 05-275 with regard to Continuing Medical Education and relicensure..
CT State Legislature Public Act 05-275 §§ 21, 25 & 26—Continuing Education

Requirements and Acceptable Education and Activities:
Beginning October 1, 2007, the bill requires a physician applying for license renewal to have completed at least 50 contact hours of continuing education during the previous 24 months. A “contact hour” means a minimum of 50 minutes of continuing education activity. It must (1) be in the physician's practice area; (2) reflect the physician's professional needs in order to meet the public's health care needs; and (3) include at least one contact hour of training or education in infectious diseases (e.g. AIDS, HIV), risk management, sexual assault, and domestic violence.
Note: clarification indicates a combination of Category 1 and 2 credits is acceptable and one contact hour in each of the specialties listed in (3) is required.

Requirements for the American Medical Association's Physician's Recognition Award (AMA PRA)

Since 1968, physicians who participate in continuing medical education (CME) have been recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA) with the Physician's Recognition Award (PRA).
